I was watching QI, and Fry was talking about Singlish! Apparently we say 'laylio' for 'radio', 'loleks' for 'rolex' and 'olen tzu' for 'orange juice'. I don't know what I think about this.

On the one hand, I love how the language morphs and changes with the zeitgeist, but on the other hand, 'olen tzu'??? c'mon. As Davies said on the show... 'Must Try Harder'.

The prodigal self returns?

It's been 9 months since I've started at this job.

When I say this job, I'm not talking about what I'm doing here, typing words in what I sincerely hope is some semblance of coherence, but my actual job... where I type words in what I sincerely hope is some semblance of coherence.

But that's not completely accurate, in much the same way as a drunk man isn't completely accurate - as many pub washroom floors attest.

Writing used to be a very small part of my work, and now it's even smaller.

And that's why I've decided to start writing again in this space - for a life without regular creative endeavour surely is a life devoid of meaning.

We shall see, then, if this amounts to anything.

postscript

so i'm back in sg, back in hall

i realize there are some other interesting-ish stuff that happened after that last entry, so here's the story.

actually here's where the story's not. am waiting for pics from fellow adventurers to new york. and then i'll post up another typical photoblog entry thingy.

but here's a story anyway... some of you would've heard this one already, but for the sake of those members of the audience who weren't there, here goes:

my flight to sg from van was delayed, so i was there drinking at the bar with some strangers in the same predicament. they're in their 40s, 2 canadian mining engineers working in indonesia and bangladesh, and a thai-canadian businessman. so we drink and talk, and we hear that the flight's delayed overnight, and that SQ will get us hotel rooms for the night. all well and good.

we sit around drinking for a tad longer, and by the time we checked, everyone's cleared out of the area. they're business class passengers, so they get the nice Fairmont Hotel, and i get the somewhat lesser establishment of Best Western Inn. By this time we're all buddies, so Dale sweet talks the hotel clerk and convinces her they made a mistake and that i should get a room in the Fairmont as well. The clerk is confused and gets me a room. sweet.

we meet up later for dinner and they decide to go to a strip club. i've got no cash left, but they say, no problem, and so i say, no problem. so we go to brandi's. the girls, boy, the girls were smokin' hot! dale buys me drinks, a couple of lap dances, and i go back to the hotel a happy man.

so, if ever you're at an airport waiting for your flight, please, have a drink or five.

maybe we end up in JB? keep your passport handy.

i have about 4 days left in vancouver, but if there's one thing i know, it's that
it's not about what you do, but who you do it with.
so, with that in mind, i'd like to thank everyone who has played any part at all in my vancouver adventures, no matter how small a role, be assured, you made a difference.

oh wait, there's something else i know as well
it's not about who you do, but what you do it with.

goldmine!

radio: if you took a person's veins and laid them end to end...... he'd be dead

tv: on a scale of 1 to 10, a 5 would be a 2

friend: the german nazis are the worst kind. the japanese weren't as bad

written note: i'm couch, thank you for lending it

oh and yeah it's finals now. hence the relative inactivity. the worst thing about finals is not the finals or the preparation or whatever, but that everyone just shuts down and does nothing but study.

i've never been this bored before
