off to whistler!

yeah the weekend starts today! gonna have to camp over at the bus station tonight to catch the 5:30 though.

some lyrics to brighten your day:

spiderman, spiderman
does all the things a spider can
spins a web, that's about it
eats some flies, and takes a shit

akash and bryn.

got a kickass weekend ahead

going up to whistler to strap on some planks and go careening down the mountain!

lots and lots of extracurricular fun to be had. it's a beautiful place, let's hope i don get crushed by some falling snow, i'm looking forward to the experience, carving out a snaky path through the snow, the warmth of a burning fire, feeling the heady rush of risky behaviour, the adrenaline of attempting to do something potentially very very dangerous, chasing people on the slopes (it doesn't make much sense, but a wink out to those in the know. yea, holla y'all)

wish me luck, eh?

but first, an essay to do. let me tell you about it: Globalization and Multicultural Rhetoric.
yeah, that'll pretty much kill you as fast as alexander's speech killed his best bud.

one thing about that movie. it'll leave you feeling like you followed good ol' alex every single tedious step of the way, and nothing to show for it.

well at least i didn't have to pay.

if only you knew...

Ah, se ela soubesse
que quando ela passa
O mundo sorrindo
se enche de graça
E fica mais lindo
por causa do amor

it's a bust

ah, just came back from attempted midnight trip out for vietnamese noodles with joe.
it says "24hrs" on the front, but only as part of the sentence "visit our 24hrs restaurant at(some street or other)"
what a gyp.

It was 3 years ago today

He was a great guy, in more ways than one. We were blood. Virtuous, yet never imposing, respected, humble, obliging, principled. Someone to look up to.

one day I will make him proud.

Do you remember what it was like when you were a kid?

When some things were magical?

I had the opportunity today to watch David Copperfield live today. Although we inevitably had to pay through our noses, the feeling the show left me with, that feeling of wonder and amazement, was priceless.

Many of you know me as a rational, perhaps cynical, person. today i felt something i haven't felt for so long, and it was an emotional catharsis, to realize that in some ways i still am the child i used to be.

The point isn't whether it's just smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection, or actual inexplicable magic, but that the whole show leaves you with a feeling of wonderment, that anything's possible...

and that, my friends, is something worth having.

fly by night: another adventure for the archives

It started out innocently enough. We just wanted to play risk.
but, one thing led to another, and once the rider arrived on his steed, there was no turning back.
sam's, taiwan beef noodles, delta, new westminster, burnaby, coffee stops both succesful and not, atm visits, gas stations, kits beach.
in-car sauna, shock treatment, finding cutlery, losing toonies, caps blown out of window, running over caps, eating doughnuts, fail to light fireworks, tripping over stones, standing around in the cold, running back to the car.
singing songs, finally finding coffee, calling it a night.
good times.
good times.

vehicle: 1989 pontiac 6000 S/E. a car, a concept, a life, a friggin deathtrap.

driver: ian, navigator: leonard

trip i/c: sam

archivist: heikal

oodles of taiwan beef noodles

leonard, topless, pontiac heating at max, driving down the highway. sauna style.

this could be anything, really, but it's sam in full winter gear, the pontiac going at 100kph, windows rolled down. cold. i think we took at least a 20 degrees centigrade drop in something like 5 seconds. impressed? me neither.

mmmm. donut.

...and not a single wrong turn!

new westminster. or something.

up burnaby mountain

leonard recovering cap blown out of window after obliging ian's request to stick his head out the window to "see how cold it is"

there is no spoon. oh there IS a spoon? ok there is a spoon.

All together now...

There's nothing you can do that can't be done
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy

Nothing you can make that can't be made
No one you can save that can't be saved
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time
It's easy

Nothing you can know that isn't known
Nothing you can see that isn't shown
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
It's easy

all you need is love.

Seattle

took a greyhound down to seattle, wa this weekend just past.

went under the impression that seattle was gonna be pretty boring and lame-ish, as reported by the ever-reliable sources of ian and sam.

well, dear reader, instead of listening to those hacks, let me tell you, it's fuckin' AWESOME!

but that's not ian or sam's fault. they only knew about the normal attractions, like the space needle, cheesecake factory, pike's place, 1st starbucks... but no one told them about lennon leow.

oh man, thanks a whole bunch and then some, lenn. we had a great time.

baby i hear the blues a-callin' tossed salad and scrambled eggs...

bet you didn't know it actually grows out of kim's head! there you have it people, undeniable proof. you'd think this would've been more widely reported, eh? you heard it here first!

random breakfast scene

random relac one corner scene.

here's an idea: instead of building a subway, why don't you build underground road tunnels and only allow buses in? but seriously, why don't you? it's practically just as good, and easier to integrate with normal bus services.

pike's place market. where men are men and fish are nervous.

lookie! it's the FIRST STARBUCKS EVER! wow! it must be so cool and unique and different from the other starbucks! guess again, hotshot. but, cynicism aside, it IS pretty cool that you get to see where it all started. hard to see both ends of the whole starbucks phenomenon, as it were.

...and the a capella security guards. or something. they were pretty damn good though.

can you spell tourist trap? "R-O-W-S O-F C-R-A-P-P-Y S-T-U-F-F T-H-A-T M-A-Y O-R M-A-Y N-O-T B-E T-E-P-E-E-S"

the famous (or so they tell me) shop in pike's place market where they throw fish. i dunno, go figure.

the inside of lennon's trunk. 7 people, 1 car. you do the math.

dinner at the factory. gooooooooood stuff. stuffed good, too.

outside the museum of aviation...

...and the inside

bada lounge. where drinks are good and hos are skanky. jussssst kidding. drinks aren't that good.

derek, lennon, leonard. good times, good times.

bada loungers. and loungettes.

greyhound to seattle: $43. getting through immigration with visa waiver: $6. cover charge at bada lounge: $5. a crate of liquor at lennon's: priceless.

san muu ku party

leonard taking a sip at lennon's

everything is wonderful now... na na na na ninety five per cent! 190 proof.

completely sloshed by now

thats me in the nosebleed section of the Key Arena for the Sonics vs. Spurs game.

dun really care about basketball, but what the hey its the NBA!

THE SONICS WIN! uh. yay whoopee whee and all that

and he scores..... a free t shirt

But I don't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs.... goodnight seattle we love you!

UBC (h) vs. heikal (a), heikal -1/2, w89.5

i had an assignment due on monday (the one just past). it's not done yet, and i've decided not to do it at all. give ubc half ball.

ah, the beauty of pass/fail.

bush won, kerry lost, no surprise there. does kerry have anything going for him other than that he's not w? oh well i guess that's it for iran then. but, arguably, iran's screwed either way.

back to academic matters, essay deadlines are coming thick and fast. but i shall hold firm. i will not waver. i will only do them the night before they are due. give me strength, for the battle draws nigh, and the forces of evil academia cast a shadow so dark upon my tortured soul. i am tempted to take the road of responsibilty, but i shall stay true to the path, of "fuck it all, ubc eat half ball".

i feel like rambling on. and so i shall, for this blog is mine and mine alone.

ah fuck. after i typed that i went to take a shower, and lost all momentum.

cheers. be good, now.

Ghouls Ghosts and Gargoyles oh my

Halloween's just passed.

Has a good time, overall, messing with fireworks while all the time staying one step ahead of campus security. Also went to PNE for Fright Night. Five haunted houses, some fairground rides and a special mention goes out to the 30 storey high vertical centrifuge that they call The Revelation.

Below are pics off of my 6230. Will post up better pics from other digital cameras (the kind that can't make phone calls).

The Revelation. the first time when i felt my usage of the word "awesome" was justified. that's about 30 storeys high, people.

i know! guys dressed in black scaring people!

zing! pow! boom! blam!

kaPOW!
